Born in Yorkshire between 1673 and 1676. Trained for the Presbyterian ministry at Bishop's Hall Academy, Middlesex, under by Thomas Brand and John Ker, 1691-1692. Tutor and chaplain for the family of Sir Thomas Roberts at Glassenbury, Kent, c. 1692-. Ordained at St. Albans, Hertfordshire in 1699. Presbyterian assistant to Thomas Reynolds at the King's/Queen’s Weigh-house, Eastcheap, London, 1699-1706. Evening lecturer at Lime Street, London, c. 1706. Pastor of congregation at Drury Lane, Westminster, 1706-c.1709. One of the Friday evening lecturers at Weigh-house, 1708-. Pastor at Hanover Street, Long Acre, c. 1709-1768. Member of Presbyterian Fund Board from 1706 to 1768. Chaplain to Archibald Douglas, duke of Douglas, c. 1720s. Received a DD from Edinburgh University in 1728, and from King's College, Aberdeen, in that same year. One of the Tuesday lecturers at Salter's Hall,1730-1768. Died in London in 1768.
