Born in London on January 1, 1676. Son of Charles Gravener. Baptized at age 14 by Benjamin Keach in 1690 and joined the Particular Baptist chapel at Goat Yard Passage, Horsleydown, that same year. Attended Timothy Jollie's academy at Attercliffe, Yorkshire, 1693-1695, and became a Presbyterian while a student there. Returned to London in 1695 and subsequently discharged from his Baptist church. Presbyterian assistant to Joshua Oldfield at Globe Alley, Maid Lane, Southwark, 1699-1704. Lecturer at the Old Jewry, London, 1702-5. Pastor at Crosby Square from 1704-49. Held a lectureship at Weigh House in 1707. Married Mary South (d. 1707) in 1703. Changed name to Gravenor in 1710. Married Elizabeth Prince in 1712. Adopted name of Grosvenor in 1716. Tuesday morning lecturer (Merchant’s lecturer) at Salters' Hall, London, 1716-49. Received a DD from University of Edinburgh in 1730. Died at his home in Hoxton Square, Shoreditch, Middlesex, on 27 August, 1758.
