John Jackson, son of John and Hannah Jackson, matriculated from Christ’s College, Cambridge in 1613; he later matriculated from Lincoln College, Oxford in 1616. He graduated B.A. in 16161 and proceeded M.A. in 1620. He served as the master of Richmond Grammar School from 1618 to 1620. He was ordained deacon in 1619 and priest in 1623. He was made rector of Marske, North Riding of Yorkshire in 1620 or 1623 and also held the rectory of Barwick-in-Elmet, West Riding of Yorkshire. He married Joan Bowes in Durham in 1629. A Puritan but a royalist, Jackson was a member of the Westminster Assembly of Divines in 1643. He preached at Gray's Inn from 1642 to 1644. Jackson retired to Berwick on the arraignment of the king, where he was buried on 22 January 1647/8.
