Jacombe graduated BA from St. John's College, Cambridge, in 1644 and MA from Trinity College, where he was a fellow, in 1647. Ordained as a Presbyterian, he became chaplain to Elizabeth Cecil, widow of David Cecil, 3rd earl of Exeter. In 1650, he became rector of St. Martin Ludgate, London, but he resigned in 1662. Returning to Cecil in Little Britain, he led meetings in her home and was licensed to preach there in 1672. He also preached at Haberdashers Hall' without a license.
