John Hickes graduated B.A. from Trinity College, Dublin in 1655. In 1657, he was appointed curate at Saltash, Cornwall. He was ejected from there in 1662. He was licensed as a Presbyterian at Kingsbridge, Devon in 1672. Along with Thomas Martin, he presented the Grateful Acknowledgement for Indulgence signed by 72 Devon ministers to Charles II. He was executed in 1685 for complicity in the Monmouth Rebellion.
