Other note
Harley was the son of Sir Robert Harley. After attending Magdalen Hall, Oxford, and Lincoln's Inn, Harley joined the parliamentarian army in 1643. He was elected to parliament in 1646, but was excluded throughout the protectorate. He was elected again in 1660, and sat in parliament throughout the reign of Charles II. He supported the claim of William III and was once again elected to parliament in 1689, 1693, and 1695. His religious sympathies were known to be presbyterian.
