Robert Cocks, son of Richard Cocks of Dumbleton, co. Gloucester, was born c.1660. He matriculated from Oriel College, Oxford in 1674/5 at the age of 15 and graduated B.A. in 1678. He was made a fellow of Brasenose College, proceeding M.A. in 1681 and D.D. in 1695. Cocks was the third baronet of the Cocks Baronetcy, created in 1662 for his father; he succeeded his brother as baronet in 1726. He was made rector of Great Rollright in 1695 and of Woodstock-cum-Bladen in 1715. He served as chaplain to the king's first regiment of guards, a position he resigned in 1730, and as chancellor of the diocese of Gloucester. He died on 9 February 1735/6.
