Date of birth uncertain: Earle was born sometime between 1598 and 1601. Matriculated from Christ Church College, Oxford in 1619. B.A. (1619) and M.A. (1624) from Merton College, and fellow there beginning in 1619.
Chaplain to Philip Herbert, fourth earl of Pembroke and chancellor of Oxford University, beginning in 1631. Rector of Bishopstone, Wiltshire from 1639 until c. 1644, but restored in 1662. D.D. from Oxford, 1640. Tutor to the Prince of Wales (the future Charles II) in 1641. Briefly chancellor of Salisbury Cathedral in 1644 before being deprived. Attended the Royal Court in exile in Paris during the 1650s. Dean of Westminster, 1660. Bishop of Worcester, 1662-1663. Bishop of Salisbury from 1663 until his death in 1665.
