Strype, John (1643-11-01 - 1737-12-11)

John Strype was born on 1 November 1643 at Houndsditch, London. He attended St Paul's School in London before being awarded a B.A. degree from St Catharine's College, Cambridge in 1666. Shortly after his graduation, he was ordained in London. Strype proceeded M.A. in 1669. He became vicar of Low Leyton, Essex in 1674 and lecturer at Hackney in 1689. He became rector of West Tarring, Sussex, in 1711. He was to hold the post at Low Leyton for the rest of his life. However, Strype is best remembered today as a collector of historical manuscripts and as the author of Annals of the Reformation (1709-1731) and editor of John Stow's Survey of London, originally published in 1598. Strype died at Hackney on 11 December 1737 at the age of ninety-four.
