Son of Nicholas Clagett (1610-1662) and brother of William Clagett (1646-1688). Date of birth unknown. Baptized on 20 May 1654. B.A. (1675) and M.A. (1678) from Christ's College, Cambridge. Awarded D.D. by royal mandate (1705). Rector of Great Ellingham, Norfolk, 1676-1684. Succeeded his brother William as preacher at St Mary's in Bury St Edmund in 1680 and continued in that position until his death in 1727. Became rector of Little Thurlow, Suffolk in 1683. Archdeacon of Sudbury from 1693 until his death. Rector of Hitcham, Suffolk from 1707 until his death.
