Precise date of birth unknown, but Moss was admited to Corpus Christi College, Cambridge in 1682 at age 16. B.A. (1685/6), M.A. (1689) from Corpus Christi, and fellow there (1686-1714). Made B.D. in 1696. Made D.D. in 1705 by Queen during while she was visiting Cambridge. University preacher at Cambridge, 1693. Assistant Preacher at St James's, Westminster 1698/9. Preacher at Gray's Inn, 1698-1729. Chaplain to William III, Queen Anne, and George I, beginning in 1701. Lecturer at St Lawrence Jewry, 1708-1727. Dean of Ely from 1713 until his death in 1729. Rector of Gilston, Hertfordshire, 1714.
