Precise ate of birth unknown, but Hassall was 84 years old at his death in 1657. B.A. (1594/5), M.A. (1598) from Trinity College, Cambridge. Vicar of Great Amwell, Hertfordshire, from 1599 until his death. As chaplain of Lord Hunsdon (presumably Henry Carey, 1st Earl of Dover, 4th Baron Hunsdon), he held an additional parish at St Alphage, London.
