Precise date of birth unknown, but Jane was baptized on 22 October 1645. B.A. (1664), M.A. (1667), B.D. (1674), D.D. (1679) from Christ Church, Oxford. Regius Professor of Divinity at Oxford from 1680 until his death in 1707. Became lecturer at Carfax, Oxford after his ordination. Rector of Wennington, Essex, beginning in 1678. Canon and treasurer of St Paul's Cathedral beginning in 1679. Archdeacon of Middlesex, 1679-1686. Rector of Newland, Oxfordshire beginning in 1680. Dean of Gloucester beginning in 1685. Canon and chancellor of Exeter beginning in 1703, and precentor there beginning in 1704. Chaplain to Henry Compton, Bishop of Oxford, at whose consecration Jane preached in 1674.
