Precise date of birth unknown, but Stratford was baptized on 8 September 1633. B.A. (1654), M.A. (1656) from Trinity College, Oxford, and fellow there beginning in 1657. Granted B.D. in 1664 and D.D. in 1673. Warden of collegiate church of Manchster, 1667-1684. Prebendary of Lincoln beginning in 1670. Rector of Llansantffraid-ym-Mechain, Montgomeryshire beginning in 1672. Chaplain to King Charles II beginning in 1673. Dean of St Asaph, 1674-1689. Rector of St Mary Aldermanbury, London, beginning in 1683, and of Wigan, Lancashire beginning in 1689. At some point he became Llanrwst, Denbighshire. Bishop of Chester from 1689 until his death in 1707.
