Born or baptized on 20 March 1564. B.A. (1587) and M.A. (1590) from St John's College, Cambridge, and fellow there beginning in 1592. Granted B.D. in 1598 and D.D. in 1606. Rector of Long Marston from 1598 to ca. 1607; of Alresford, Hampshire from 1606 to 1609; of Stockport, Cheshire from 1616-1619; . Dean of Gloucester from 1607 to 1609 and of Winchester from 1609 to 1615. Bishop of Chester from 1616 to 1619; of Lichfield from 1619 to 1632; and of Durham from 1632 until his death in 1659.
