Born 1623 and educated at St Andrews University. Ordained to Cathcart 23 June 1647, transferred to Outer High Kirk 2 July 1650 and to Inner High Kirk April 1655. Present at the Battle of Dunbar in 1651, imprisoned in 1662 for not taking the Oath of Allegiance, and in retired to Holland where he was offered a post at the Scots Church in Rotterdam in 1677 but declined it. He returned to Scotland some time after this and died on 5 February 1686. He was married to Janet (died 15 June 1685), the third daughter of William Mure of Glanderston. Janet was imprisoned in 1679 for attending a conventicle.
