Born in Paisley, Renfrewshire in 1658. Son of Bailie Paisley and Elizabeth. Educated at the University of Glasgow. Was Chaplain to Sir James Maxwell in Pollok, Renfrewshire. Licensed on 25 March 1691and ordained on 15 September 1691, becoming minister of Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire. Married Anna Simpson and had four children, Patrick (minister of Kilmarnock, Ayrshire), John, Margaret, and Jean.
