Born at Sowerby. Admitted to Trinity College, Cambridge on 26 March 1647 where he became a scholar in 1650. He gained is BA in 1650/1 and MA in 1654, and then became a fellow in 1651. He was vicar (or assistant vicar) of Halifax from 1650 until 1662, when he was ejected. After his ejection he continued to preach around Yorkshire. He was licensed to preach in Yorkshire as Presbyterian in 1672. He died at the age of 49 on 31 July 1675.
