Samuel Foxe was the eldest son of John Foxe, the martyrologist (1516/17-1587). Samuel was born at Norwich on 31 December 1560. In October 1572, he entered the Merchant Taylors' School, London. Two years later, he was elected a demy at Magdalen College, Oxford. He graduated B.A. on 3 November 1582 and proceeded M.A. on 22 June 1587. In 1587, Samuel Foxe became steward to Sir Thomas Heneage, the Queen's vice-chamberlain. Subsequently, he became Member of Parliament for Midhurst in 1589 and for Knaresborough in 1593. Samuel Foxe died at Warlies, near Waltham Abbey, Essex in January 1630.
