Born ca. 1622 to John Drake, a yeoman of Ilkley, West Riding of Yorkshire. Matriculated from Magdalene College, Cambridge Easter 1639; migrated to St John's College, from where he graduated BA in 1642 and MA in 1647. Rector of Pickworth, Lincolnshire, 1646 until ejection in 1662. Afterwards member of Folkingham Classis (therefore presumably a Presbyterian), and preacher at High Street, Lincoln from 1673, at Grantham, and Fulbeck, both Lincolnshire, until his death in 1696.
