Jacob Wallais (or James Wallys) was born at Colchester and attended Magdalene College, Cambridge as a scholar. He was ordained deacon in London at the age of twenty-three on 6 January 1573. Subsequently, he was ordained priest at Ely on 21 December 1576. From 1586, he was rector of Stowlangtoft, Suffolk.
