Born in Lincolnshire, perhaps Boston, ca. 1600 to unknown parents. Admitted sizar to Emmanuel College, Cambridge in 1616 before migrating to Queens' College where he graduated BA inn 1622; proceeded MA in 1625. He held this post until 1637/8 when he migrated to Rotterdam after he was called before the Bishop of London for breach of the canons of the church. He initially joined an independent church in Rotterdam led by John Ward, but established his own congregation after a dispute over prophesying with the church's preacher, William Bridges. He returned to London in 1641 where he lectured at Blackfriars and again at St. Margaret's. Member of the Westminster Assembly in 1643. Rector of St. Mary Abchurch, in 1650 and then of St. Bartholomew, Exchange in 1654, both in London. Commissioner (or trier) for the approbation of ministers in 1654. Also appointed Master of Pembroke College in 1650, a post he held until his death 15 April 1655. He had married a woman named Isabella, of whom little else is known, and had three children, two daughters, and a son, also named Sidrach who followed his father into the ministry.
