The exact birth date of Thomas Pierson is unknown. He was admitted pensioner at Emmanuel College, Cambridge on 23 January 1589/90. He graduated B.A. in 1594 and proceeded M.A. in 1597. Ordained in 1599, Pierson subsequently held lectureships at Northwich and Weaverham, both in Cheshire. In 1612, Pierson became rector of Brampton Bryan, Herefordshire, a post which he held until his death on 16 October 1633. Two works were published posthumously; namely, a sermon entitled The Cvre of Hvrtfvll Cares and Feares (London, 1636) and a more substantial volume, Excellent Encouragements Against Afflictions (London, 1647). A manuscript biography of Pierson, written c. 1699-1700, survives as British Library, Harley MS 7517; another copy is discoverable in British Library, Lansdowne 721.
