Other note

Son of Major General Daniel Gookin. He entered Harvard College at the age of 15, and while at college gained a Corporation bursary. He graduated in 1675. In 1679 he was invited to the ministry of Sherburne, but he declined the invitation and the pulpit went to his brother Rev. Daniel Gookin. He was employed by Rev. Urian Oakes at the Society at Cambridge and took over his post after Oakes's death in 1682. He held the role until his premature death.
