John Clark was born at Newbury, MA, the son of Nathaniel and Elizabeth (nee Somersby) Clark. He graduated from Harvard College in 1690 and married Elizabeth Woodbridge, daughter of Rev. Benjamin Woodbridge (GEMMS ID: 3063). They had four children, Benjamin, Nathaniel, Deborah, and Ward, who would go on to be the first minister of Kingston. He was ordained on 21 September 1698 and made the third minister of Exeter, New Hampshire. He died on 25 July 1705, leaving an estate valued at £811, including a house and land at Charlestown and a library of books. His widow would marry Rev. John Oblin, the next minister at Exeter.
