Other note

The exact birth date of William Bridge is unknown. He was admitted as a sizar at Emmanuel College, Cambridge on 7 June 1619. He graduated B.A. in 1623 and proceeded M.A. in 1626. Bridge was ordained on 23 December 1627. His first post was as a lecturer at Saffron Walden, Essex. In 1631, he was instituted to the rectory of St Peter Hungate, Norwich. He also obtained the ministry at St George Tombland, Norwich, possibly also lecturing at Colchester. However, owing to the influence of Matthew Wren, bishop of Norwich, he was excommunicated in 1636. After his excommunication, Bridge was pastor at Rotterdam. He returned to England in 1641 and served as one of the Assembly of Divines, accepting the post of town preacher of Yarmouth in 1642. In the late 1640s, Bridge held a series of posts and lectureships in London, including St Margaret's, New Fish Street Hill, and All Hallows Staining. He was eventually ejected from Yarmouth in the Restoration; subsequently, he preached as an Independent minister at Clapham, Surrey. William Bridge died on 12 March 1670 at the age of seventy.
