Stuc(k)ley, Lewis (1622-03-25 - 1687-07-01)

Precise date of birth unknown. Stucley matriculated from Wadham College, Oxford in 1637 at age 15. He earned his B.A. in 1640/1. Stucley came to be known as "the famous independent". He was rector of Newton Ferrers, Devon in 1646, after which he was minister of Great Torrington, Devon. He preached at Exeter Cathedral until 1660 or 1662, when he was sequestered. After preaching throughout Devon in the late 1660s, he was licensed to preach at Crediton, Devon in 1672. Beginning around this time, he became minister at Castle Meeting, Exeter. Stucley died sometime in July 1687 died in Bideford, Devon, where he often preached, despite having no official role there.
