The exact birth date of Richard Brett is unknown. He matriculated at Hart Hall, Oxford on 8 February 1582/3 at the age of fifteen. Brett graduated B.A. on 12 October 1586, proceeding M.A. on 9 July 1589. He gained the rectory of Quainton, Buckinghamshire in 1595. Brett was awarded the degrees of B.D. and D.D. on 6 June 1597 and 13 June 1605, respectively. With his renowned knowledge of Latin, Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic, Arabic, and Ethopic, he was appointed one of the translators of the Bible in 1604 and one of the first fellows of Chelsea College in 1616. Richard Brett died on 15 April 1637 at the age of seventy. His wall monument can be found at Holy Cross and St Mary's, Quainton, Buckinghamshire.
