Son of Francis Savage (d. 1617) of Dobshill in the Worcestershire parish of Eldersfield. Attended Balliol College, Oxford, BA (1625), elected fellow (1628), MA (1630), BD (1637), DD (1651). Made Master of Balliol College in 1651. Rector of Riseholme and Grange de Lings, Lincolnshire (1634); Vicar of Sherborne St John, Hampshire (1648); Rector of Fillingham, Lincolnshire (1661); Rector of Sherborne St John, Hampshire (1662); Rector of Bladon, Oxfordshire (1662); Prebendary of Gloucester Cathedral (1666); Rector of Crowmarsh Gifford, Oxfordshire (1670). Published several works, including "The dew of Hermon which fell upon the hill of Sion, or, An answer to a book entitl'd ‘Sion's groans’ " (1663) and "Balliofergus" (1668), a history of Balliol College. Married Mary Sandys of Sherborne St John (d. 1683) around 1655, with whom he had at least 7 children. Died 2 June 1672 and was buried near the altar steps in the Balliol College chapel.
