The exact birth date of Robert Meldrum is unknown. He was born c. 1653 and graduated M.A. from the University of Edinburgh in 1674. He was the minister of Garvald, East Lothian, from 25 November 1674 until his deprivation for not taking the Test in 1681. From 31 December 1682 until his death on 14 December 1699, he served as minister of Yester, East Lothian, having been appointed by the Bishop of Edinburgh. His name appears in Daniel Defoe, An Historical Account of The Bitter Sufferings, and Melancholly Circumstances of the Episcopal Church in Scotland, &c. (Edinburgh, 1707), p. 34.
