Nicholas Robinson was born in Conwy to a wealthy English family of Tudor descent. He received his B.A. from Queens' College, Cambridge in 1547/8, his M.A. in 1551, his B.D. in 1560, and his D.D. in 1566. He was a fellow of Queens' from 1548-63 and proctor from 1556-7. Robinson served as rector of Shepperton (Mx) from 1561-74, rector of Witney (Oxon) from 1562-85, archdeacon of Marioneth from 1562-73, and archdeacon of Anglesey from 1573-85. He was made bishop of Bangor in 1566. A renowned preacher, Robinson was instrumental in advancing protestantism and quelling Catholic recusancy in his diocese. Robinson married Jane Brereton, with whom he had several children. He was an accomplished scholar of English and Welsh, notably translating "Historia Gruffud vab Kenan" from Welsh to Latin. He died 13 February 1585 and was buried in Bangor Cathedral.
