William King Richardson (1859-1951) graduated summa cum laude from Harvard on 30 June 1880 with a degree in Classical Languages. In 1882, he was awarded a double first at Balliol College, Oxford. He practised law in Boston, specialising in patents and trademarks; he also collected books and manuscripts for over forty years, and was particularly interested in illuminated manuscripts, illustrated books, incunabula and fine bindings. Richardson bequeathed his library of almost 1,700 volumes to Harvard in 1951.
