Nicholas Sever was born on 15 April 1680 in Roxbury, MA. He was awarded a Bachelor's degree from Harvard College in 1701, and a Master's degree from the same institution in 1704. On 4 April 1711, Sever was ordained as the minister of Dover, New Hampshire; he held this post until 1715. The following year, he returned to Harvard as a Tutor. From 1725 until 1728, he served as Fellow of the Harvard Corporation. After his resignation from the Harvard Tutorship, he was a merchant in Kingston, MA. Sever finished his career as Chief Justice in Plymouth County. He died on 7 April 1764.
