Other note

There were several men named Thomas Bayly (alternatively Bayley, Baylie, or Bailey) active in 1675, including Thomas Bayley (B.A. Magdalen Hall, Oxford 1662, M.A. 1665, D.D. 1684, college vice-president 1681, expelled in 1687 and restore 1688, rector of Fordham, Essex and Slymbridge, Essex); Thomas Bayley (B.A. Christ Church, Oxford 1670, M.A New Inn Hall 1673, D.D. 1687, principal 1684-1709); Thomas Bayley (prebend of Ketton, Lincoln Cathedral and subdean of Wells Cathedral, 1638-1716); and Thomas Bailey (rector of Balcombe, 1641). None of these men are recorded as having spent time in Ireland, where this sermon was preached. The only cleric of this name with an Irish affiliation was Thomas Bayly, who served as dean of Down (1661-3), archdeacon of Dromore (1663-4), and bishop of Killala and Achonry (1664-70); however, he died in 1670, five years before this sermon was preached. Without further information, it is not possible to positively identify the preacher of this sermon.
