The exact date of birth of William Cade is unknown. The son of Thomas Cade of London, he matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford on 15 December 1665, aged thirteen. William Cade graduated B.A. in 1669 and proceeded M.A. in 1672. In 1674, he became rector of Cassington, Oxfordshire. In 1678, he published a sermon entitled The Foundation of Popery Shaken. He was instituted to the rectory of Addington, Kent in 1680. He was awarded the degree of B.D. in 1681. Finally, in 1682, Cade became rector of Brook, Kent, holding this post until his death in 1707. His children included Laud Cade (d. 1731), vicar of Selling, Kent. He was named after Archbishop William Laud.
