Other note

Frederick V was born on 26 August 1596, the son of Frederick IV, elector Palatine of the Rhine. In 1610, he succeeded his father as elector. In 1613, he married Elizabeth Stuart, daughter of James VI and I, king of Scotland, England and Ireland. On 4 November 1619, he was crowned king of Bohemia. His reign ended in 1620 owing to his defeat by Catholic forces at the Battle of the White Mountain. Thereafter, he was known as the 'Winter King'. For the rest of his life, Frederick lived with his family in exile, finding refuge at The Hague. He died on 29 November 1632.
