Edward Huth was born on 8 January 1847, the eldest son of the book collector Henry Huth (1815-1878). He matriculated at Exeter College, Oxford on 12 June 1867, at the age of 20. He graduated B.A. in 1871 and proceeded M.A. in 1877. Huth was also a student of the Inner Temple in 1872, eventually serving as a Magistrate for Sussex. From 1896 until 1897, he was High Sheriff of Sussex. He died on 1 May 1935.
