Peter Thacher was born in Salem, MA, on 18 July 1651. He received his A.B. from Harvard College in 1671. Three years later, he was awarded the degree of M.A. and became a Fellow of the College. In 1676, he travelled with his friend, Samuel Danforth, to England, returning to Massachusetts in 1677. In June 1681, Thacher was ordained first pastor of Milton church in Massachusetts. Thacher died on 17 December 1727. Two volumes of his journal, beginning in Barnstable in January 1679 and ending in Milton in 1686, are held by the Milton Historical Society.
