Born 1660 and educated at the Uni of Glasgow, he was ordained to Paisley 28 august 1694. transferred to Second Charge, Aberdeen, in 1700 and Greyfriars' Church 1711. appointed Proffesor of Divinity and Principal of Marishal College in 1717. He was a leader in the counsels of the Church, and along with Principal Carstares was sent to London to represent to William III. the views of the Church on lay patronage and the Toleration Act. Various publications, including 'Ratio Sacra' (1710).
