The full title of this manuscript is as follows: 'The Some of Certaine Sermons preached by Mr Obadiah Sedgwicke in An[n]o Domin[i] 1630 written by Thomas Gellibrand'. These sermons were delivered between 3 October 1630 and 9 January 1630/31. There is a decorated title page.

Material Features

Quarto. Gold- and blind-tooled calf panel design with intricate centre- and corner-pieces. There is a blank leaf between folios 98 and 99.

Provenance

The armorial bookplate of Robert Harley is pasted on the inside front cover of the volume.

Acquisition

The Harleian Library was founded by Robert Harley, First Earl of Oxford (1661-1724). According to Cyril Ernest Wright, Robert Harley 'was primarily interested in English historical and political material and in volumes of sermons and theological controversy, sharing in the latter the taste of his Harley ancestors'.
