Provenance

'George Merrett his book' is written on the first flyleaf (recto) of this volume. In addition, 'George Merrett his book bought the 29 of August 1631 cost xviiid' has been written on another leaf, which has been pasted onto the first flyleaf (recto) of this volume. On f. 1 of this volume, 'Ex doni Xtferi Merit med: Doctor May 1695' has been written in the margins.

Acquisition

The Harleian Library was founded by Robert Harley, First Earl of Oxford (1661–1724). According to Cyril Ernest Wright, Robert Harley ‘was primarily interested in English historical and political material and in volumes of sermons and theological controversy, sharing in the latter the taste of his Harley ancestors’.
