Contents Note

Notes by Thomas Aldersey on 41 sermons, mainly by [Rowland] Sherrard and [James] Adern [sic] (according to the cataloguer). The latter preacher appears to be Dr. James Arderne who had connections to Cheshire. Sermons are listed on ff. 1-2 and are numbered sequentially in the manuscript. However, they do not appear to be organized in strictly chronological order in the manuscript (in one instance only, where November 12 precedes September 5).

Material Features

Ruled calf, 182 leaves. Number "B15" is written on f. 1. Begins only on versos, then continues in reverse on rectos; Aldersey has numbered the pages in this order. Rectos begin at p. 175.

Acquisition

This is one of twenty notebooks kept by Thomas Aldersey which were bought at auction from Sotheby's on 18 December 1986, lot 323.
