Contents Note

Notes by Thomas Aldersey on sermons by preachers including Rowland Sherrard (f. 4v), [James] Adern (or "Ardern," ff. 55v, 104v), and [John] Latham (ff. 69v, 109v). Sermons listed on ff. 1-2.

Material Features

Ruled calf, 170 leaves. Number "B17" written on f. 1. Unlike other notebooks in this set, in which Aldersey writes only on the versos and then in reverse on the rectos, here he writes on both rectos and versos consecutively.

Acquisition

This is one of twenty notebooks kept by Thomas Aldersey which were bought at auction from Sotheby's on 18 December 1986, lot 323.

Source of Data

Jeanne Shami; Bodleian Library online Catalogue of notebooks of Thomas Aldersey, 1653-89

Other Note

James Ardern is identified in CCEd and ACAD (Venn). The spelling "Adern" is not found in any biographical sources apart from the Bodleian catalogue.
