Contents Note

Macray's catalogue notes that the manuscript contains notes for sermons on various parts of holy Scripture, especially the whole book of Ecclesiastes, dated at the beginning October 14, 1602, and belonging to Thomas Hearne, April 10, 1709. Occasional marginal and interlinear notes in French are interspersed throughout the volume. The catalogue mentions sermons on Psalms 1-6, but they are actually on 1-5, and 7. In addition, the sermons on Ecclesiastes do not cover the whole book, going only to the end of Chapter 11. At the end of the manuscript, reversing the book, are a sermon in French and notes on Genesis. It is difficult to determine where one sermon ends and another begins within the manuscript. Given the number of revisions, changes, insertions, marginal additions and comments, it is probable that this manuscript is a collection of preacher's notes for sermons.

Material Features

The entire manuscript is written in dark, reddish ink, and in the same neat, italic hand.
