Contents Note

Contains 24 sermons (pp. 16-630), all by Robert Leighton, Archbishop of Glasgow, except one (pp. 64-69) by James Nairn. It is written in the hand of a scribe who wrote two volumes of copies of Leighton's sermons (MSS. Rawl. E. 26-27). This seems to be another volume of Leighton's homiletic writings. It also contains miscellaneous theological writings, including a discussion of conscience (p. 1), "The differences of sin, in respect of reason, will, and affection" (p. 29), English and Latin notes on spiritual beauty/pulchritudo (p. 61), numerous other theological subjects (pp. 111-286, 310-327, 364-366, 386-394, 489) and a discussion of "Ecclesiasticall Rules and Constitutions for order and discipline to be observed in the Church of Scotland" (fifteen chapters, p. 633).

Material Features

Paper, quarto, 342 leaves. Not foliated by the library; the only pagination is the scribe's. This volume seems to have been transcribed from short-hand notes or from the author’s own manuscripts. The author has left many blanks where he was unsure of the right word. Flyleaf at the beginning lists English and foreign devotional works, in the hand of Bishop Francis Turner.
