Large collection of mostly sermon notes, with some complete sermons and sermon fragments, by John Warner, Bishop of Rochester. Texts preached on include John, Acts, Romans. One of four volumes of sermon notes created c. 1605-1665 (MSS. Eng. th. b. 4-7). The notes contain additions, deletions, strike-throughs, and other marks indicating they are Warner's preaching notes for these texts.

Material Features

237 leaves. Texts are cited in Greek, and it is not always easy to read the chapter and verse preceding it. Some of the papers are so damaged that they have not been included on GEMMS.

Acquisition

One volume from a large collection of Warner's sermons given to the Bodleian in 1955 and 1960 (MSS. Eng. th. b. 4-8, e. 62, e. 176-7; Eng. hist. b. 205; Eng. misc. b. 193-5; Top. gen. c. 75). These volumes also include papers of other members of the Warner family based in Walsingham Abbey, Norfolk, such as legal estate papers.
