Along with MS. Don. e. 162, this is one of two notebooks containing sermons by Hugh Morris. They were mostly preached at Bangor, Wales. Includes Morris's thoughts on funeral sermons and grief (but not attached to a particular sermon) (ff. 29v-30v). On ff. 49v, 149r-153r, there are fragments that do not appear to be attached to any particular sermon in the manuscript, including some personal notes (ff. 151v-153r) that might have been used in a funeral sermon. Also includes prayers (ff. 157r-160r) and a discussion of the "mutual duties of husbands and wives" (ff. 153v-156v), both proceeding upside-down from the back of the manuscript.
160 leaves. Bound in ruled calf. The sermons are not written in shorthand, but each of them contains some shorthand elements. Proceeding from the end of the volume to f. 149, material has been added upside-down.
These two notebooks were part of lot 323, purchased by the Bodleian from Sotheby's on 18 December 1986, which also included 20 of Thomas Aldersey's notebooks and several in other hands.
