This volume contains fair copies of sermons in a fairly clear hand. The major, titled divisions of this manuscript are described as being the sum of several sermons preached by Hughes in Plymouth in 1661. Together these sermons comprise the "Three fold Estate of a Justified Soule here in the Flesh." Part 1: His state of sadness and mourning under Sin; Part 2: His state of Joy and reviving in the enjoyment of God through Jesus Christ our Lord; Part 3: His state of Division, or his conflict between God and Sin."
The volume is bound in leather, with blind tooling, and, on the spine, a red label tooled and lettered in gold, "HUGHE'S [sic] THREE FOLD ESTATE M.S." On the title page are the initials R. W. 1709.
