GEMMS Manuscript ID
GEMMS-MANUSCRIPT- 779
(old series: GEMMS-MANUSCRIPT-205)
Title
Sermons of John Howe
Shelfmark
MS 24.19
Creation Date
1690 - 1691
Contents Note

The volume contains Howe's sermons in the same hand as MS 24.18 but with no identifying marks on the spine. Previous volumes have identified the sermons as lectures, but this manuscript does not so label them.

Material Features

The front board is detached from the manuscript. Running heads at the top of each page give a sense of the substance and content of the material on the page. The volume is paginated in the same black ink used by the scribe, so is contemporaneous.

Source of Data

Jeanne Shami

Other Note

The place of preaching is assumed to be Haberdasher's Hall (where Howe maintained a lecture), but this information is an assumption only. These sermons (except the one on Ecclesiastes 9:3) were printed in The Whole Works of the Rev. John Howe, M.A. with a Memoir of the Author, vol. 8 (London, 1822).
