Diary of Thomas Crosfield
Shelfmark
MS. 390
Creation Date
ca. 1626 - 1674
Contents Note

Crosfield's diary containing his notes on numerous sermons, a few of which have dated 1654-1674. The notetaker for the sermons is assumed to be Crosfield, except for those dated during the 1670s, since Crosfield died in 1663. In these cases, the notetaker is presumably Matthew Hutchinson, who owned this volume in 1674. Also contains a brief sermon diary (ff. 148r-150v) with summaries of sermons dated 1634-1638. The volume also contains a diary of events, mainly in Oxford, dated 1626-1640, 1653 (f. 4); a list of books with some summaries (f. 108), identified as "Bookes at Mr. Styles in Hagburne" (f. 122); a list of books published in Oxford "two or three yeares before this present yeare of our Lord, 1630" (f. 140b); documents from discussions between the provost ("praepositum") of Queen's College and others from the college (according to the cataloguer) (f. 142b).
